R. Louis DeFranco, MS, PhD (candidate*), BCBA, BCCABA, is a Florida and New York based board certified companion animal behavior analyst, board certified behavior analyst, academic and forensic psychologist, and animal science and psychology professor with over 20 years experience as an animal behavior consultant, educator and expert witness. 

Expert Testimony

He has assisted attorneys regarding the analysis and reconstruction of dog bites, attacks, mauling, veterinary practice liability, animal shelter liability and related litigation. He is available to assist attorneys and prosecutors nationally with animal injury and animal cruelty law suits including discovery, trial research and preparation, expert testimony and reports to the court regarding personal injury sustained from dogs, cats, horses, birds, exotics and other domestic and wild animals.

Academia

He is president and a professor at the American College of Applied Science in Florida, Executive Director of the non-profit Florida Center for Behavior Analysis Inc.  and former Executive Director of the Animal Behavior Center of New York and the Queens Community Animal Shelter in New York City where he and his staff have completed functional behavioral assessments and developed behavior intervention plans for over 3000 dogs, cats, birds and horses over a 13 year period.

He has appeared on U.S. and European television and radio programs, is the former host of WEVD's It’s About Animals radio talk show and former co-host of Queens Public Television's  Pet Talk Live in New York City. He has appeared on Animal Planet, Late Night with David Letterman, Joan Rivers Show on WOR AM, Howard Stern Show on WNEW, Fox News, FX, New York One, ABC and CBS News. He has been quoted in the New York Post, New York Times, Christian Science Monitor and U.S.A. Today. He is currently appearing on Discovery Channel's Extraordinary Animals series as an animal behaviorist where he debunks a Jack Russel Terrier dog who "does math" using scientific methods of inquiry. His most recent appearance (May 2011) was on The History Channel's Weird Warriors, a several hour television special about animals that have been used by the military in the past and current century.

He is based in Florida and New York consults nationally.
